Amy: Summer of 2020 I was supposed to be transferring to work in Chicago. The day I was supposed to sign my lease, because of COVID uncertainty, my transfer didn’t pan out and I stayed working in Dallas. I was so disappointed having attempted to move a few times and I had already broken my lease in Dallas. I was exhausted from apartment searching in Chicago and was not interested in starting over again in Dallas, so I followed my best friend and roommate at the time Leah and signed a lease where she had. Little did I know my future husband was right across the street! That fall, after working from home for months, I decided it was the perfect time to finally get a dog - Penny! DJ and I met shortly after walking our dogs and I immediately told my mom and sister I’d found my guy. After DJ not so directly asking me out a few times, I eventually worked up the courage to give him my number. We went on our first date that night and have been together ever since! Fast forward, after a little over two years together, I was in San Diego for the week for work. The trip fell on a holiday weekend, so DJ met me there to make a vacation out of it. We drove up to La Jolla to walk the coast and about 5 minutes in he proposed. Aside from thinking it was odd that he packed a backpack of water and snacks for what was more of a nature walk than an intense hike, I was totally surprised. I am so lucky to have found him and I can’t wait to spend my life with my best friend… and our three pups!
DJ: I first saw Amy potty training her new fluffy puppy right out front of my living room window which is a popular spot for dogs. I didn’t rush my two dogs out to meet mini Penny, Amy’s dog, in fear they may mistake her for a rabbit and eat her. I bided my time. Finally, the opportunity to meet arose when Amy and I were walking towards each other and Penny crouched down like she was ready to play. I thought to myself “now this is a meet cute”. After that day, I began seeing Amy and Penny more and more they seemed to be on the same walking schedule as us. We would chat and wave, sparks were clearly flying, so I mustered up the courage to ask her to a Dave Matthews cover band concert at the Granada Theatre. I would be denied. Luckily, I would be given another shot and we had our first date at Mariano’s Fine Mexican cuisine. Now I have 3 dogs…and the love of my life living with me on the same street we met!
